It's your birthday...
That was me, at 39. (Yesterday)
Today in history:
1925 1st issue of "New Yorker" magazine published
1958 Egypt-Syria as UAR elect Nasser president with 99.9 percent of the vote
1965 former Black Muslim leader Malcolm X was shot and killed by assassins identified as Black Muslims as he was about to address a rally in New York City; he was 39.
1968 I am born.
1970 Jackson 5 make TV debut on American Bandstand
1986 AIDS patient Ryan White returns to classes at Western Middle School
A few folks who share my birthday:
Anais Nin, 1903, novelist
Nina Simone, 1933, singer
Alan Rickman, 1946, actor.
I’ve been trying to come up with something deep and meaningful to say about turning 40. Here is what I know.
I know that the sun will always rise in the morning, and set at night.
I know that tomorrow has potential.
I know that I am strong; emotionally, spiritually, and physically, even when I don’t feel like it.
I know that life unfolds and expands before me, and I can either move with it or fight against it, but fighting it is harder.
I know that I can make life changing decisions and live with my choice.
I know that I am a beautiful, sexual being.
I know that I am creative, and will embrace those skills for the rest of my life.
I know that I am passionate; in my beliefs, and in my loves.
I know that I will never again apologize for being me.
I know that my family and friends are the most important, most constant things in my life.
I know that fun is fun and done is done.
